Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The "searchable PDF" file type is not displaying as an option in the scanner's software manager.  I should be able to click Destination > File Type, and select "searchable PDF."   The 7740 manual (page 44) states, "If Save as Editable Text (OCR) is not in the list of available scan options, you need to reinstall your software and choose that option."  There is no such option given during installation.  We have downloaded and tried the installers for both the "basic web package" and the "full web package" on HP's site for the 7740.   Does anyone have the solution?

Thank you for your response.  Yes, I can open Readiris Pro (a third party application) and scan a document as an OCR/searchable PDF.  I can do the same thing with Adobe Acrobat Pro -- which is my preference of the two. However, I am trying to discover why the option for "searchable PDF" is not showing in the HP OfficeJetPro 7740 scan software.  This really impacts when I want to do a quick scan directly from the scanner using the control panel.  Although the option for OCR is on the printer's control panel screen, when I select it, the scan fails with an error message that the software is missing. 

 

I did find this screenshot response (see below).  Although the link referenced is for the 9010, the screenshot is for the 7740.  

Where is this "FULL" software for the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740? 

 

Yes, we've looked at HP's page for the 7740.  We finally found and downloaded and used the link for "Full_Webpack," but we still do not get an option for "searchable PDF."

 

VERY FRUSTRATING.  I've had two ScanJet Pro scanners.  I know how to use HP's scan software.  Readiris Pro is not required or necessary in order to use the "searchable PDF" as a destination file type,

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.

 

With the latest software version, you would need to download and install the HP Universal Scan in addition to the Full Feature Software to enable OCR functionality, please follow below support document to allow OCR scanning:

HP printers - Scan as Editable Text (OCR) with HP Scan (Windows) 

Excerpted

For HP print drivers downloaded after June 2022, the HP Universal Scan software is required to enable the Save as Editable Text (OCR) shortcut in HP Scan. HP print drivers downloaded before June 2022 do not need to install HP Universal Scan.
