Using an Apple mac or an iOS device, can the HP OfficeJet 5255 or HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 scan to searchable pdf? I've unsuccessfully tried both the HP Smart app as well as the scanner under System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Scan >Open Scanner. Thanks.

Hi @iamgee
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the scanning issue.
To better assist you - What's the macOS version installed?
While you respond to that, I'd suggest you try these steps -
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software installs with the driver for some HP multifunction printers. If HP Easy Scan has the option to save scans as RTF or TXT files, you can scan documents that you can edit.
-
Search the Mac for scan, and then click HP Easy Scan in the list of results.
HP Easy Scan opens.
-
Scan a document or photo using the app.
-
Click Send, and then select Folder.
-
Click the Format menu, and then find RTF or TXT.
-
If RTF or TXT formats are available, select one, and then click Save to save the scan as editable text.
-
If RTF or TXT formats are not available, your printer did not ship with OCR software. To scan as editable text, install software from a third-party vendor such as FineReader or Readiris. HP recommends that you contact the vendor to see if your printer is compatible, and for steps to use the software.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi @Asmita -
Thanks for your prompt response. Your recommendation to use HP Easy Scan was on target. I searched and downloaded it from the Mac App Store and then followed your steps with the following revision:
In step # "4. Click the Format menu, and then find RTF or TXT", the appropriate format to choose is "PDF-Searchable". This is in addition to choosing "Documents with Text" from the Presets menu prior to clicking the SCAN option.
Thanks again for your sage advice.

Hi @Asmita -
Like I said earlier, your recommended solution resolved the issue with creating a pdf-searchable file by using the HP Easy Scan app on the Apple Mac. Thanks again.
However, as you know, my original question was not only about the Apple Mac but also about the Apple iOS devices. Do you have any insight into how to create a pdf-searchable scan pdf from an Apple iPhone or iPad?
I’ve tried the HP Smart app “Printer Scan” option from the Home Page but there is no “PDF-Searchable” option to choose from in the settings. There is only “Color” or “Grayscale” aavailable.
Can you offer any insight?
