all of my scans started developing a ~2" vertical line going down the entire scan. It's to one side of the scan, same side every time, about an inch from the edge of the scan. It Anything between the line and the edge isn't scanned properly.

Be serial number (which you should never post on open forums like this) it shows your warranty expired about 10 months ago. Your bill of sale might state differently. I would contact HP (find phone number here  Phone Assist Worldwide | HP® Official Site)

and talk to them. There were some issues previously with some Scanjets and they might have some ideas.
