HP Scanjet G3110 Photo Scanner
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi. Installed Windows 11.  Now my Scanjet G3110 will not work.  Error message is: could not find available destinations to which scans can be sent.  Using the original installation disc does not work.  The Scanner app provided by Microsoft is useless as it only activates perhaps one in 15 tries, and then it runs the scanner at 3X speed and produces poor scans and the threat of breaking the scanner.  The HP Print & Scan Doctor will not work (every time the file corrupt error happens)  And Support Solutions will not install. Can anyone help with advice or steps to correct the issue?  I use this particular scanner for scanning art as it has a greater depth of field (can focus beyond the glass plate) which my intaglio prints/copperplate etchings require.

Here is additional information from the log for the scanner:

Device settings for USB\VID_03F0&PID_4305\5&2cc52817&0&2 were not migrated from previous OS installation due to partial or ambiguous device match.

Last Device Instance Id: USB\VID_054C&PID_0010\5&2cc52817&0&2
Class Guid: {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000}
Location Path: PCIROOT(0)#PCI(1400)#USBROOT(0)#USB(2)
Migration Rank: 0xF000FFFFFFFF0023
Present: false

Can I reintroduce a destination for scans from the scanner using the original driver (which seems to be present.)?

This scanner is not supported in Windows 11.

There is not any scanner / printer software listed for this version of Windows (nor for Windows 10, not that it matters).

The device is old enough that the HP Scanjet G3110 User Guide mentions "Solution Center" as the software title - all Solution Center software essentially stopped working when Flash went away (2021) - HP pulled the remaining Solution Center software packages (remove them) as unusable and having security concerns that could not be addressed.

What to do?

No idea, really.

My personal opinion is that it is time to consider replacing your trusty scanner with newer tech.

Desperate...

There is a "third party" scan software - it might work with your Scanner.

I don't believe the software is free - but it might be worth checking...

If you can find no other options, this company specializes in Scan software for unsupported printers.

NOTE:  This reference is FYI and is not intended as an endorsement of the software.

I, too, am coming to the conclusion that I will have to replace my trusty and functional CCD scanner, but it is an unwilling conclusion.  It grieves me that this is another experience of planned obsolescence that I must work through, where problem-free tech is phased out according to dictates which seem to benefit manufacturers to the detriment of users.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my inquiry.   I find more and more that considered responses and good help come from the community support groups, taking up the slack where manufacturers and corporations seem to be eliminating access to expert advice.  I hope this finds you and yours well and taking every enjoyment the season offers.  -- Regards.
