I have also checked with another computer: MacBook Air M1 running Sequoia 15.4.1 recognises the HP ScanJet 3500 f1 scanner. The scanning software for the Mac is primitive, to be polite, so this workaround is no substitute for fixing the Windows 11 problem. HP CFO has very likely done some financial calculations and decided that it will exit the scanner market.
