Hi @Tomora

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I am sorry your scanner has been disabled on your HP 4100 series printer. I understand how inconvenient it feels when scanning suddenly stops working, and I appreciate the effort you’ve already put in to try and resolve it.

Here are steps you can follow to enable the scanner again:

Step 1: Install or Open HP App

  • Download the HP App from the Microsoft Store if not already installed.
  • Launch the app and sign in with your HP account if prompted.

Step 2: Add Your Printer

  • From the HP App home screen, select “Add Printer.”
  • Choose your HP 4100 series printer from the list or enter its IP address if it does not appear.

Step 3: Access Printer Settings

  • Once the printer is added, select it from the home screen.
  • Go to “Printer Settings.”
  • Scroll down to “Diagnose & Fix.”
  • Run the tool—it will automatically detect and resolve issues such as disabled scanner functionality.

Step 4: Check Windows Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X and select “Device Manager.”
  • Click “View” > “Show hidden devices.”
  • Expand “Imaging devices” or “Human Interface Devices.”
  • If the scanner appears grayed out, right‑click and select “Enable device.”

Step 5: Update Drivers and Firmware

Step 6: Test Scanning

  • Open the HP App again and select “Scan.”
  • Place a document on the scanner glass and run a test scan to confirm functionality.

These steps should help restore your scanner and make it available again in Windows and the HP App.
