Hi!

Does anyone else have this problem with scans?

The document will strech while being scanned making the document unable to read.

It is because of the crease on the page being scanned.

Hi @mdan88,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If you are experiencing issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 where the scanned documents appear stretched and are unreadable, I would request you to please follow the steps:

Verify Scanner Settings

  • Open the HP scanning software (HP Scan or HP Smart).
  • Confirm that the document size in settings matches the actual paper size (e.g., A4, Letter).
  • Adjust resolution if needed—sometimes very high DPI exaggerates distortions.

Update Drivers and Software

  • Go to the HP Support site and download the latest drivers and firmware for the OfficeJet Pro 7740.
  • Install updates for both the printer firmware and the HP scanning application.

Clean the Scanner

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Use a lint‑free cloth slightly dampened with glass cleaner to wipe the scanner glass.
  • Clean the white underside of the lid as well.
  • For the ADF, gently clean the rollers with a dry, lint‑free cloth.

Reset the Printer

  • Power off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord for at least 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect and power it back on.
  • This clears temporary glitches in the scanning system.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
