Hello, I was scanning pictures and the scanner stopped working saying it is busy. I have tried the hard reset with no success and ran the diagnostics on the scan doctor and it said it found no issues. My 2 pictures I scanned were successfully saved and I only had one more picture to scan. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi @ScanAnn814
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your scanner might be stuck in a "busy" state, even though the diagnostics didn't find any issues. Since the hard reset and diagnostics didn’t work, here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve the problem:
1. Check for Print or Scan Jobs in Queue
- Even though you’ve successfully scanned two pictures, sometimes print or scan jobs can get stuck in the queue. Go to your printer/scan queue on your computer and check for any pending jobs. Clear any stuck jobs and then try scanning again.
2. Disconnect and Reconnect
- Disconnect the scanner from the computer or power source for a minute or two. This might help reset the scanner’s connection.
- If you’re using a USB connection, try switching to a different USB port or a different cable.
- If it’s a networked (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) scanner, try rebooting your router or reconnecting to the network.
3. Close Any Running Programs
- Make sure no other applications (like a printer management software or photo-editing software) are actively using the scanner. Close any programs that could be interfering with the scanning process.
4. Check for Software/Driver Updates
- If you haven’t already, check if there are any available software or firmware updates for your scanner. Sometimes a software update can resolve issues where the scanner gets "stuck."
5. Clear Temporary Files or Cache
- Some scanners store temporary files or cache that might be causing the scanner to freeze. Try clearing the scanner’s cache if that’s an option within the software or through the scanner’s settings.
6. Try Scanning with a Different Program
- If you’re using specific scanning software (like the manufacturer's app or scanning tool), try scanning using another program, such as Windows Fax and Scan or another third-party scanning app, to see if the issue persists.
7. Test the Scanner on Another Computer
- If possible, connect the scanner to a different computer to see if it behaves the same way. This can help rule out if the issue is with your computer or the scanner itself.
8. Look for a "Reset" Button or Menu
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
