I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 after huge MS pressure that we all know about.
My printer function continues to work but the scanner function has been iffy. I managed to get it to scan for a while, after something I did (cannot remember what), but now it seems to have failed completely and I get the "Problem connecting to scanner" message.
Strange, since the cord is properly connected and the printing function works.
Also strange, since whenever I try to download drivers I am told that the my printer is already fully installed. Haha, I say.
This is an old printer, I understand that, and I cannot find any cd for it now. Must have been lost in moves and etc.
HP Support links do not help at all and I am of course way beyond and out of any warranty period.
Does anyone have any advice...other than "Buy a new printer"?
Thank you!
RHSC

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Can you try this, may or may not work, but worth a shot:
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Let us know if that works.
Click Helpful = Yes to say Thank You.

Dear Greenturtle,
Thank you. Appreciated. It was worth the shot.
I got round to loading HP Scan Extended this morning and have ever since been successfully scanning once more. Phew!
My only comment is that it would have saved much time agonising about this and looking for solutions if my upgrade from W 8.1 to W 10 had not effectively dumped my old scanner function into "landfill", but then I suppose that's a Microsoft issue, not HP.
I just have to sort out now the line which appears on all documents copied and scanned (printer is fine) when loaded from the document feeder, but that's probably for another lifetime...
Thanks again,
RHSC
