Trying to use the scanner.  I have an I Mac that is fully updated.  When I use HP Easy Scan or Printers & Scanners through my Mac I get the same error... The Scanner is being used by a remote user.  I've tried resetting the printer and it still doesn't work.  Help appreciated.

Thanks

@DL86

Welcome to HP Forums, I understand that you are getting "Scanner is being used by a remote user" error while scanning.

I would like to help you.

Meanwhile:

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector and printer.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware

Refer this HP document to update the printer firmware:- https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Remove and add the printer with AirPrint

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

        3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Figure : AirPrint displays in the Use menu

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

      4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

If this helps, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others and please give the same post a Kudos for my efforts to help.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

I have tried the process recommended by Sandytech20 but I'm still getting the same error.  Does anyone have any other ideas.  Thanks Chris

I figured this out. I have an HP MFP 225dn and was getting this error ever since I installed HP Easy Scan software. I tried all the suggested solutions and nothing worked.

I searched through my active processes with Activity Manager and found something called "HP Scanner 3".If you don't have your scanner software running this process should not be present, but in my case it was. I killed it and was able to scan again.

I have a HP 3000s3 that has never worked correctly right out of the box.

First, there is not a firmware upgrade available for this unit

Second the power off and on doesn't fix it

Third, killing the HP scanner 3 process doesn't fix it.

Further - gives the same "The scanner is being used by a remote user. (-9926)" on both HP EasyScan and Preview Import from scanner.  Both work fine from the HP m476 MFP I have.

Further, this scanner won't scan a whole page at 300 dpi, but works fine at 240, 400 and other resolutions.

Help!
