macOS 10.12 Sierra

urgently need scanner, rarely use it. refuses to connect with Mac or my son's Windows laptop. Repeated 'scanner is busy' errors. Tried using printer own screen, the HP Easy Scan app and Eprint apps on my Mac. Have tried upplugging and restarting etc. Printer is working fine and via bluetooth. thanks for help !

Updating the printer firmware may resolve the issue. Printer firmware updates contains product enhancements and issue fixes. You may download and install the latest firmware update from here.

I have updated everything, all software, firmware drivers etc. I think the issue is my OS version is not now supported by HP. Thanks for yr input.

sadly I've already wasted five/six hours on this, and have to scan documents for a mortgage. Can't waste anymore time, will buy a new one. Printer function works fine. So if anyone wants a HP printer message me!
