Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Hello, all.  I have had an OfficeJet Pro 8610 for a year or so and it has developed a consistent problem with the "Document Feeder Open" errow when trying to scan using the ADF.   It didn't do this at first, but once it started, it got worse to the point of doing it every time.

I have now determined that if I apply pressure to the top of the feeder when it starts to feed, I usually hear a loud click and feel the feeder push up slightly when the first page is feeding.  After this, I can release it and it will continue to feed the rest of the pages.  Sometimes the click is very noticeable, sometimes it is very subtle.

Definitely seems to me that something is causing the ADF to pop up a little and this is causing the error.

@HumpMan

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 Printer. I understand that you are getting paper feed issue and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well.

Check the paper and then reload it.

Adjust the paper settings in the print driver.

Clean the paper feed and pick rollers.

Reset the printer.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

       NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers.

I have the same problem with the HP Officejet Pro 8610 - giving the message "Scanner lid or document feeder open"  after about 1 to 2 years of very seldom operation. I tried all resets that HP suggested with any result.  Your suggestion to push down the scanner lid makes the ADF work normally - I have to keep the pressure on untill all the pages are scanned.

To my opion there is some mechanial issue of wearout that makes that a microswitch is not properly switched when the lid is down and pushing on the lid is recovering the wear.

This seems to be a quality issue with this model, it seems to be a cost down version of the Pro 8600 which I operate for many years now and this one has never shown this problem.....
