I am having the same issue.  I just got off the phone with HP support and they are aware of the issue with the HP Smart app.  They are working on a fix and will release it when ready.  In the interim, they advised me to use an alternate app such as the HP Scan Extended App, which a helpful person linked to above.  I can confirm that the HP Scan Extended app works fine with the document feeder.

Update:  I upgraded to Windows 11 today.  And lo and behold,  HP Smart is now working again.  It scans properly from the document feeder.
