Hi @JohnBoy46

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the issue so clearly—and I’m truly sorry the scanner on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 isn’t responding. That kind of disruption can be especially frustrating when everything else seems ready to go.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery to help restore scanning functionality.

Step-by-Step: Fix Scanner Not Working on HP OfficeJet Pro 8725

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the power button
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet
  • Wait at least 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors)
  • Turn the printer back on

This clears temporary faults in the scanner subsystem.

2. Check Scanner Access via HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows PC
  • Select your printer > Scan
  • Try scanning from Flatbed and Document Feeder (if available)

If the scan option is missing or unresponsive, the app may need to be refreshed.

3. Reinstall the Full Feature Software

Visit: HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 Drivers and Software

Select your operating system and download the Full Feature Software and Driver

Uninstall any existing HP software from Settings > Apps

Restart your PC and install the downloaded package

This restores full scan functionality and resolves driver conflicts.

4. Run HP App Diagnostics

  • Open the HP App
  • Go to Support > Printer Diagnostics
  • Run the Scan Test and Hardware Scan

These tools can detect and repair scanner communication issues.

5. Check Scanner Hardware

  • Open the scanner lid and inspect for:
    • Dust or debris on the glass
    • Obstructions in the document feeder
    • Scanner light movement during startup

If the scanner light doesn’t move or illuminate, it may indicate a hardware fault.

Let me know how the scanner responds after reinstalling the software and running diagnostics. If needed, I can guide you through testing with Windows Scan or checking USB vs. network scan behavior.

You're doing everything right—this sequence should help restore smooth scanning.
