Hi, I have an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw. It's on a wifi network with devices of various operating systems: Windows 11, Chromebook, Android, and Apple. 

On all devices the printer is visible and works perfectly as a printer. It works perfectly as a copier. But it will not scan from any device. The specific error messages vary from OS to OS. Windows says "Scanner unavailable." Android says "Scan unsuccessful." But nothing I try gets scanning to work. Most recently I updated the firmware in the printer. It made no difference.

Any Ideas?

Check Network Connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to the same network as all your devices. Often, scanning issues arise when devices are unable to communicate with the scanner due to network connectivity problems.

 

Update Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer on all devices. Go to HP Support and download the latest drivers specific to your operating systems.

 

HP Smart App: For mobile devices such as Android and iOS, download and install the HP Smart app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. This app supports scanning and often resolves connectivity issues.

 

Firewall and Security Settings: Check the firewall and security settings on your computer to ensure they aren’t blocking scanner communication.

 

Embedded Web Server (EWS) Settings:

  • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP address into a web browser.
  • Navigate to settings related to scanning and ensure protocols like Bonjour or Remote Scan are enabled.

Restart Devices: Restart your printer and all your devices to refresh their settings and network connections.

 

Reinstall Printer Software: Uninstall and reinstall the printer software on your devices. Sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling can resolve configuration issues.

 

Scan Using a USB Connection: If possible, try scanning using a direct USB connection to your computer to see if the issue persists.
