Using HP Smart for F4580 scanner, I get a connection error. The HP printer scanner doctor cannot connect since th printer is busy. No idea how to resolve this issue. I have tried rebooting the laptop, and I have tried puting the printer plug and leaving it out for 1/2 minute. Same result.

Thank you Irwin6 for your quick reply. I am afraid the indicated approach does not provide a solution. I followed your instructions (again...I have done all this before) and have reset the printer. I have used HP Print and Scan Doctor. This app sees the printer. However, at the next stage in clicking fix scanner issues, I am told that the Device Manager registers an error that requires a computer restart. A restart does not solve the problem. Checking the Windows Device Manager itself, the one-in-all printer software is listed. However, checking in Windows Settings Printers and Scanners it says that the driver is unavailable. Printing works perfectly, but when I apply the HP Print and Scanner Doctor to Fix Printer problems just as a test, I am told that there is a Device Status issue, and the printer is in a busy state, but this is not the case. I had previously reinstalled the software in case there was an installation error. This time I tried to uninstall the printer software to reinstall it again, but Windows could not do so because it could not find it. I have no problems with other apps, including the equivalent Epson printer. I have an HP laptop with HP Assistant installed as well, but it cannot help. Might this mean that there is a malfunction in the software or printer electronics?

I eventually went to the website Download:DJ AIO 06 F4500 140 408-4.exe(idinf:24369) (driverscloud.com) which has a greater that 80% safety rating for its software by TrustPilot, and downloaded the driver. I installed the driver on my Windows 10 PC, and now the printer and the scanner appear to work well. I did get a warning from Windows that the driver gives security issues with this version of the OS, but so far I have not had any issues.
