General Troubleshooting Steps

Check Connections:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to the computer or network. If using a USB connection, make sure the cable is securely connected.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off the printer and your computer, wait for about 60 seconds, and then turn them back on.

Update Software and Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers and software installed for your printer. You can download the latest versions from the HP support website.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date.

Specific Scanner Troubleshooting Steps

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can automatically diagnose and fix scanning problems.

Check Scanner Lock:

  • Some printers have a scanner lock that needs to be unlocked for the scanner to work. Check your printer manual for the location of this lock and ensure it is unlocked.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.Try to scan using the app and see if it provides any specific error messages or troubleshooting tips.

Check Scanning Settings:

  • Ensure the scanning settings are correct and the correct scanner is selected if you have multiple scanning devices connected to your computer.

If you receive a specific error message, please provide the exact wording of the error. Here are some common solutions for typical scanning errors:

Scanner Communication Error:

  • Ensure the printer and computer are connected to the same network if using a wireless connection.Restart the printer, router, and computer.

Scanner Not Found:
