Hi @MickeyJA,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding improving scan quality on the HP Smart Tank 5105 printer using an iMac!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
1. Check Scan Settings
Ensure that your scan settings on the computer are set to the desired quality level. This includes resolution, color settings, and file format.
- Resolution: Increasing the resolution (measured in dpi) can significantly improve scan quality.
- Color Mode: Ensure the scan is set to color if needed, instead of grayscale.
- File Format: Save as a high-quality format like PDF or TIFF, which can maintain better quality than JPEG.
2. Update Software
Make sure the HP Smart app and any printer drivers on your iMac are updated to the latest versions. This can help eliminate issues related to outdated software that might be affecting scan quality.
3. Use HP Smart App on Computer
Instead of using default scanning software, use the HP Smart app on your iMac to scan documents. It often provides better control over scan settings than the built-in system tools.
4. Adjust Scanner Glass Placement
When using the scanner, ensure that documents are placed correctly on the scanner glass and that the scanner lid is securely closed.
5. Clean Scanner Glass
Ensure the scanner glass is clean and free of smudges, dust, or scratches that could affect the scan results.
6. Advanced Scanning Features
Consider using any advanced scanning features provided by HP Smart app on your iMac, as they offer options like image enhancement and text recognition which can improve scan results.
I hope this helps.
