Thanks for the response,

No joy it is the same October 31 2023 driver update. Tried to install it again. No change.

Hello All,

My daughter with a Mac Book also has problems scanning

Both Mac CPUs have identical programs and the same versions

She uses a WiFi connection to the printer, while I have a fixed USB cable

After a test with a USB cable connected to the printer and her Mac Book,
there are no more problems.

A temporary solution is to use a fixed cable as a solution.

Best regards,

Freddy

I also have the 7740. Downloaded the firmware that was dated November 2023. It says "this Firmware updater does not contain upgrades for your device." I downloaded this from HP's website, for this specific printer. Can we get a fix please? I need to scan lots of things. I need to scan them with our OCR software. I hate to use the HP crappy utility they gave us, it has about half the options we need. Even apple's built in Image Capture tool has more useful options. This scanner worked PEFECT for so long, now I am just frustrated and considering looking for a new device from a different vendor, but I really love this printer.

Edit to my last post: It appears that our 7740 already has the latest firmware, I must have already installed it As it stands right now, I (none of us actually) that use this device can connect to the scanner from any app EXCEPT the HP Smart app, over the network or via Wifi.  Abbyyfine reader, image capture, and all the other OCR or scanning tools out there do not connect to the scanner UNLESS, we connect via direct attachment via USB. This is not going to work for our workflows. The whole reason we purchased this printer was to be able to print and scan wirelessly. Also, I have uninstalled and re-installed all of the HP Easy Scan, and HP utilities from the HP install wizard. I have rebooted our computers, network devices, and the printer at least a few times.  I am looking for any response from HP on this one, you still sell this device as the only tabloid size wireless, multifunction inkjet machine on your website. Please sort this out, you may contact me directly if you want to troubleshoot.

The same with me. Downloaded new firmware but message the same, no upgrades.

And somehow scanning to USB does not work either. Strange is that if I put a .jpg on the USB stick, it is not shown on the print photo in the printer. Any scan made on the printer in PDF to the USB is not shown if I take the stick to either Mac or windows the files are not shown.
If I scan a picture to .jpg on the printer and then I go to print picture I can select the scan. Even after removing the stick, it stil shows after re inserting.

But If I take the stick to windows or Mac, the scanned .jpg files are not shown.  For me a total mystery.

Still no solution from HP. I have searched the community forums quite extensively at this point and what appears to have happened is that in a self installed update, the HP scanner software has messed up communication over either the network or wifi (appears to be an issue for both people using wifi and ethernet). USB appears to still work with the built in Mac scanning apps, 3rd party apps like 'Abbyyfine reader,' the older "Hp Easy Scan," and even the opensource scanner software NAPS2. While ALL of these software options worked before the update, none of them do now.  The only supported software that you can use to scan over the network or wireless to a mac at the moment from an HP desktop scanner is "HP Smart".app. The HP Easy Scan, apple's built in and all 3rd party applications error out when trying to connect to the scanner with the same basic error codes. This move was done by HP and while I am sure they have a reason for it, I don't like it. As it stands right now, if you do use the "HP Smart".app you also have to create an account that requires you also give them permission to upload and /or view any documents you send through that scanning software. Feel free to read the Terms and Conditions of the new "HP Smart".app if you want more info about that.  This is garbage in my opinion. I like to pick and choose what I share with whom, but even more so, I want to be able to use the products I purchased with the software that I choose to use. Abbyyfinereader is critical for my business and I'm livid right now that I cannot use it as a decent workflow. Now I have to scan through the "hpsmart.app" and then "re-read" it in my OCR software. Waste of time. We are going to look for an alternative now, but will also keep checking back to see if HP does the right thing and returns functionality we had before.

Dear Jeadhob,

Would you be so kind as to provide a link to HP's terms that specifically relate to one's giving "permission to upload and /or view any documents you send through that scanning software."?

As you mention below:
"As it stands right now, if you do use the "HP Smart".app you also have to create an account that requires you also give them permission to upload and /or view any documents you send through that scanning software."

I had seen information regarding "telemetry" (page counts, etc.)  but missed this critical part that you note.   It is quite important.

Kind regards,
MIKE_TJ

Hey Mike,

I cannot figure out how to see it now that we have installed the App. I didn't remember "agreeing" to share my photos and such with HP when "I" installed the HP Smart app, but when my wife brought her MacBook in and had to install the same app, she had to create an account and agree to a bunch of things.  I am going to see if I have another Mac here that I can go through the whole 'setup" again of the app and see the exact wording and text required to get the app to connect to the printer.  I didn't like it, and really don't generally agree to those terms, but because we needed to scan something in for school, and my wife needed it that day... I just caved and said yes.  It may take me a few days to scrounge up another computer to test this. Don't think I can do this via a VM but I'll try to spin one of those up too just to verify.

Hi Jeadhob,

One can find HP's Privacy Policy linked to the "Information" section at the bottom of the "HP Smart for Desktop" download page of the Mac OS-X's App Store.  When I download the latest as of last night (US_2023_Dec.pdf) and read through it, I still think it is both telemetry and mostly "account-related" personal information that HP collects and not what is scanned.

What I do find:
"We do not scan or collect the content of any file or information that might be displayed by an application."

Please double-check me on this because this is important.

Kind regards,
Mike

Part of why the privacy aspect is important to me is that I periodically have to scan also confidential information for work (which has allowed the use of the printer via VPN).
