HP Officejet Pro 6830
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I am trying to figure out how to use the HP Scan application but I keep getting this error. I can't get the scan to computer feature to work either. I don't want to use the scan to email feature, it would be really nice if I could get this to work. Any ideas?

Hey @nateweger,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you are having some issues with scanning from your Officejet 6830 e-All-in-One Printer to your Mac OSX 10.10 machine. I can help you with that.

To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done:

  1. If the printer is connected to your Mac through a USB cable, remove it.
  2. Click on your Apple icon, System Preferences, and Printers and Scanners.
  3. Hold down the control key and click on the icon of your  printer on the left.
  4. Click on Reset Printing System.
  5. Open your Applications folder and the Hewlett-Packard folder.
  6. Run the HP Uninstaller.
  7. Open Applications, Utilities, and Disk Utility.
  8. Click on Macintosh HD on the left.
  9. Click on Verify Disk Permissions. This should take about ten minutes.
  10. Click on Repair Disk Permissions. This should take about ten minutes.
  11. Restart your Mac.
  12. Download the latest software by clicking on this link.

Please let me know if you are able to scan after following the above. If you are, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

The advice given here for Mac is to "Reset Printing system".  A messges then pops up that says all printers and scanners will be uninstalled if I do this.  I have a number of printers installed, some of which are at my place of work. It is unacceptable to have to uninstall them all to fix a problem with the HP scanner  (mine's a 4650 by the way).

Yes, it seems like the solution provided above is quite extreme.  I was hoping for a quick fix; not a full un/reinstall.
