LaserJet Pro 200
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The scanner of my multi-printer (LaserJetPro 200)  sudden scans only about one quarter of the page (from the glass flatbed), with the rest all black.

This happens with all three scanning programs I tried: Windows Scanner app, Widnows Fax and Scan, and HP Scan and Capture.

I have checked the settings in Scan and Capture; it is set to A4 (full) pages.

I tried the troubleshooter in Devices and Printers. It results in not problems.

The copier produces a perfect copy of the same document from the glass.

A few months ago I reinstalled everything because the scanner wasn't working at all. After that it worked again. I have not made any  recent changes to my computer. Windows 10 is up to date.

I have tried restarting the computer and unplugging and restarting the LaserJet.

Thanks for your help.

I was disappointed that I got no responses, but the problem is solved.

I removed the all-in-one laser printer and reinstalled it. (Open Devices and Printers in control panel, right click on the printer, choose "Remove Device". Restarted. Reopened Devices and Printers window, selected "Add a device" and reinstalled .

That was no help at all: I was still getting only half images/half black, with scans made from  any scanning program as well as Paint. (I knew the scanner itself worked, because I was able to scan directly from the machine to a USB key, so the problem was on my computer.)

I was going to try a more drastic method of removing  printer and drivers, but tried the following instead.

I read that it might be a problem with latest Windows update, which made sense because both this time and two months ago, the scanner started malfunctioning for no apparent reason. I had not made any particular changes to computer (except of course Windows updates), and the HP driver and firmware were up to date.

So I downloaded and ran the "Windows Update Troubleshooter".

It said there was a "potential Windows Update Database error detected". I let it run a second time, this time allowing it to implement the suggested solution, which was to removed the latest Windows update and install it again.

I reinstalled the printer again for good measure.

It worked.

The HP Printer and Scan Doctor 5 stills gets stuck at the very end of the first part ("communicating with the printer").  So if anyone can help me with that, please do.

But my scanner works again!

I just tried scanning directly to a USB key (inserted in the front of the Laserjet), and that works fine. The copier also works, so I take it that it is not a hardware problem.

Looking back in my notes, I see that I had completely reinstalled the LaserJet Pro 200 just two months ago because the scanner had stopped working entirely.

Before reinstalling again, I'd rather ask here if something else might be causing this scanner problem.  Some setting? Any tips?

Thanks.

P.S: I tried (a couple of times) running a freshly downloaded copy of HP Print and Scan Doctor. It blocks at about 99% complete.
