Are you still able to make a copy on the machine? If yes then you might have corrupt software and uninstalling and reinstalling might help. If you cannot make a copy, then likely you have a hardware issue with the scanner.

Thanks for your reply. 

1.  I can still print from my computer.

2. When I use the HP Print & Scan Doctor, it allows me to scan the document in the scanner correctly, but when I then try to scan normally, I still get the "scan to computer is currently unavailable" message.

3. The wireless network test results are all good.

4. And the HP Print & Scan Doctor tells me that it has fixed my problems - only, sadly, it hasn't!
