Cannot scan from HP Laserjet100 color MFP M175nw.

I replaced my PC and installed the HP software from the OEM disk via a USB cable. Everything worked great on the old PC 2 weeks ago. The printer works fine but cannot scan. I am only using the USB; I am not connected to wifi or BT on the PC or printer.

I reset the old PC to Win factory settings to give to my grandchild- I cannot get scanner working on this one either.

I uninstalled/reinstalled using the OEM disks several times.

Ran Win update + HP update= no luck.

I tried HP Print and Scan doctor, which fails on the Windows WIA Scan Error, even after the reboot.

I tried using HPSmart- which crashes on install or times out.

Reset the printer to factory settings; replaced the USB cable too.

Tried using the full software install option with same results. Tried updating the driver- same result.

Any clues left?

Uninstalled using all the methods described in the forums at least 5x. I am almost ready to throw it in the dumpster...

Hi @David2244,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the scan.

If your HP LaserJet 100 Color MFP M175nw printer works fine for printing but not for scanning after setting it up on a new PC via USB, there are a few steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Verify Installation

  • Check Device Manager: Open the Device Manager on your PC and ensure that the scanner is recognized without any yellow exclamation marks or errors.
  • Use HP Scan: If you haven’t already, try using the HP Scan software included with the OEM disk to initiate the scan. Sometimes the basic print driver doesn't include the scanning functionality.

2. Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Download the Latest Drivers: Instead of using the drivers from the OEM disk, download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website to ensure compatibility with your new PC's operating system.
    • Select your operating system and download the Full Feature Software and Driver package.
  • Reinstall the Software: Uninstall the current HP software and drivers from your PC, then reinstall using the freshly downloaded package.

3. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor: This is a free diagnostic tool provided by HP to troubleshoot scanning issues. Run it to detect and fix problems automatically.
    • You can download it from the HP website.

4. Check Windows Scan Settings

  • Windows Fax and Scan: Use the built-in Windows Fax and Scan tool to see if it can recognize the scanner.
    • Open Start > Windows Accessories > Windows Fax and Scan and try scanning from there.
  • Ensure WIA Service is Running: The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service should be running for scanning to work.
    • To check, type services.msc in the Windows search bar, find "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)," and ensure it is set to "Automatic" and is running.
  • .

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @David2244,

Please find the next steps below.

5. USB Port and Cable Check

  • Try a Different USB Port: Plug the USB cable into a different USB port on your PC.
  • Use a Different Cable: If possible, try using a different USB cable to rule out any issues with the cable itself.

6. Check Scanning Software

  • Try Different Scanning Software: If the HP software doesn’t work, try using third-party scanning software like NAPS2 or VueScan to see if they can detect the scanner.

7. Firewall/Antivirus Settings

  • Temporarily Disable Firewall/Antivirus: Sometimes, security software can block scanning functionalities. Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus to see if the scanning works. If it does, you may need to add exceptions for the HP software.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, there might be a compatibility issue between the printer's scanning function and the new PC's operating system or scanner failure. In such a case, contacting HP support for further assistance might be necessary.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

I don't think Win is installing the full software bundle. After installing from the disk, HPSmart, or full s/w download, I do not see an icon for the scanner. In the Win faxes and scanners, it says it does not detect a scanner, same as Disk doctor or other softwares. I can not add it as a scanner either.

Disk doctor crashes on the Win WIA scan step, and then same on TWAIN, etc.

I tried all other steps as suggested with the same results. I am running Win10 pro vers 22H2.

I don't see any PM.

However, I got it working for now. I had to connect with a ethernet cable instead of USB or WiFi. This is good enough until I can afford to replace it. TY
