Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

OK if you're here via Google, here is the answer I have found while posting this question.

 

High: high compression, which means smaller file size and lower quality.

Low: low compression, which means larger file size and higher quality.

None: no compression. USE THIS ONE will give you small file size (better then 'low' setting) and good quality.

 

The HP user interface is confusing and lacks explanation.  So just select None (no compression) in most cases.

 

Hopefully my post will not attract a copy-paste answer from an HP employee...
