Trying to scan a document on my HP printer/scanner. I’m using my iPhone with the HP Smart app. I click the printer scan icon, it scans the doc just fine. I save it as a .pdf, and then it wants me to choose what to do with file. When I choose email, it inserts the scanned doc in the body of the email instead of attaching it as a .PDF attachment.
It used to work fine….thoughts on what to try or change?
thx

Hi @Mpmjem,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the HP Smart app on your iPhone is embedding the scanned document in the body of the email instead of attaching it as a PDF. This could be due to a recent update or a change in the app settings. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Check the Share Options in HP Smart App
- After scanning the document and saving it as a PDF, when you choose to share the file (via email), ensure you're selecting "Attach" rather than any other format that might insert it in the email body.
- If there’s no clear option to "Attach" the file, see if you can change the default sharing behavior in the app settings.
Manually Attach the PDF
- If the HP Smart app insists on embedding the scanned document, you can try manually attaching the file instead:
- Save the PDF to your phone’s Files or iCloud Drive after scanning.
- Open your email app separately, compose a new email, and then attach the scanned PDF from your phone’s storage.
Reinstall or Update the HP Smart App
- Check the App Store to ensure the HP Smart app is up to date. Sometimes issues like this can arise from app bugs, and updates might have fixes.
- If the app is already up to date, try uninstalling and reinstalling it, as this can reset the settings and fix glitches.
Check Email Client Settings
- It could also be related to how your email app handles attachments. Try switching to a different email app or client on your iPhone (such as the default Mail app, Gmail, etc.) to see if that makes a difference in how the document is attached.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
