Help please!

I have recently purchased a HP ENVY 5010 and am trying to scan directly from the printer by pressing the "Scan" button.  However, every time I try it says to "Visit 123.hp.com to get the HP Smart app or other HP scanning software for your computer".

I know how to scan through the app but want to avoid this unnecessary step and go direct through the printer - is this possible?  If not, why is there a "Scan" button??

To be able to assist you better, I'd like to know the following-

  • What is the Operating System installed on the computer?
  • How is the printer connected to the computer?
  • Have you installed the full-featured printer software on the computer?
  • Is the scan to computer-enabled on the computer?
