Make sure the paper is correctly loaded in the ADF.

User Guide > Load an original in the document feeder - page 27

1.  Load your original print-side up into the document feeder

See the illustration in the User Guide to help determine the proper orientation.

Thanks for the reply, but I am loading the automatic scanner with 30 pages of double sided documents.  Yes, the first page first side is facing up.

Thanks for the reply, but I am loading the automatic scanner with 30 pages of double sided documents correctly.  Both written sides of a page begin at the top, however, when scanned it is flipping the reverse of each  page.  Still need help.

You are welcome.

Duplex, whether one page or many pages, should provide the correct front-to-back flip.

Yes, document page(s) should stacked and loaded face up with the top of the document (first lines) toward the ADF / printer.

If you have not done so,

Restart the printer and the computer

Consider using a different program to scan the document.  A different software can give you the option to double check and / or set the "flip" option.

Flip is description varies on different printers / software.

Example:

HP_Scan_Extended_Shortcut_1-1AHP_Scan_Extended_Shortcut_1-1A

Flip over typically describes the action of flipping the paper "over" (grasp paper at the side edge) or "up" (grasping the paper at the bottom edge to flip.

Older software may describe the flip action as "flip long side" or "flip short side" - used with orientation portrait is "flip over", that is, side to side as one would turn the pages of a book bound at the left (or right) edge.

HP Scan (provided with your printer software) and HP Scan Extended work (and look) in a similar manner.

NOTE:  HPSE provides options that the regular scan software may -- or may not -- support, including "Auto Detect Size" (for scans on glass) that extracts the boundary (edges) of the document or image to be scanned.

Scan software works much the same way for both JPEG and for PDF - that is, the options look very similar when viewing the scan menu.

The following example, shows the "flip" choices.

HPSE_Scan-to-PDF_1HPSE_Scan-to-PDF_1

Download, save, and install   HP Scan Extended – Exceptional free HP scan program:  HP Scan Extended features include (and are not limited to): Single, Multiple scans, Image and PDF scans, Email as PDF / JPEG, Source selection, Page Size choices include Auto-Detect (extracts image / document boundary).  May include OCR (Save as Editable Text).

NOTES

  • HPSE is an older subset of the printer software; features are very similar to scan software included in 2015 or newer Full Feature Software packages.
  • If you have the newer version of the scan software inside your Full Feature Software, use that: Printer Assistant shortcut icon on Desktop (named for printer) > Scan a document or image (wording varies).
  • Although the HPSE program works as a separate program, HPSE is dependent on the infrastructure provided by the printer software. The Full Feature Software for your printer should be installed before installing HPSE.

NAPS2 -- Not another PDF Scanner – free program scans PDF files and image(s) as .jpeg or PDF file(s).  Includes OCR.  Download, save, and install to use.
