Scanning from Chromebook to HP color laserjet mfp m180nw
05-06-2020 02:34 PM

Am I missing something or is it not possible scan from a Chromebook using my new HP Color LaserJet MFP m180nw printer/scanner. I install the s/w on my windows laptop and I can use the HP Scan tool to scan docs. But when I search for how to do it on a Chromebook it guides the reader to setting up Web Scan. With the IP address of the printer they can use the default printer UI to setup Web Scan and you use this same UI to initiate the scan.
But on the UI that I get when I put in the IP address of the printer, there are no options to do this.
Thx, Brian

Hi,
Webscan and Scan to Email are the only supported scan options for Chrome OS, I afraid that none of those are supported by your printer.
You may check if you can install Android Apps on your Chromebook, select Chromebooks allow installing Android Apps as listed, then you may try installing the HP Smart app and see if that may work, although no official support is available for the app for Chrome OS, it may work and may not:

Hope that may help,

Thanks so much for info. I did not realize this when I bought the printer given that we have 2 and soon to be 3 chromebooks in our house. I am rather surprised that THIS printer does not support these. Perhaps I'm wrong but I suspect many of the HP printers do support Webscan and Scan to Email.
Regardless, you helped a great deal clarifying this. Thanks again !
As a work-around my on is using HP Smart on his iPod and saves the PDF to his G drive.
