I was able to get scanning from scanning glass using front panel working correctly with GREAT difficulty using HP smart app - as other apps referred to in instructions are no longer applicable!  It should NOT have been so difficult!

But now I discover that scan from front panel only works from scanner glass, not document feeder.  Front panel recognizes document is loaded on scanner but ignores when scan to computer is selected.  No problem copying from document feeder on front panel by the way.  Scanning from document feeder was a major reason for my purchase.

This is pretty clearly a printer software/firmware problem, and the whole support for use of the front panel is extremely poor (my printer is distant from computer!).  And yes, I can scan from document feeder using app on my computer.  It is disgraceful for multibillion dollar corporation to have such poor attention to detail in its software.

Use HP Smart App: Although using the front panel for scanning from the feeder might be problematic, the HP Smart app often provides better control over scanning options. You should confirm that the app version is the latest and retry scanning from the app, selecting the document feeder explicitly.

Scan Settings: In the HP Smart app, check if there is a specific setting or option to choose the document feeder as the preferred source. This can sometimes be set as a default, requiring manual change.

Troubleshoot and Reset: Consider doing a basic reset of the printer. Turn off the printer, disconnect it from the power source for a minute, and then reconnect and restart. This can sometimes solve issues related to the hardware functionality of document feeders.
