Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently moved and had to set up my printer in the new place.  Once it was set up on my wireless network, scanning to my computer from the touch screen does not work as it did before.  It will scan, but saves each page of a document as a separate image file.  It used to ask me if there were more items after scanning each page, and once I was done it was saved as a single document.  It does ask if I have more items after scanning each page, but now I get each page as a separate JPG.   Also, there are a LOT more entries on the touch screen than there were before, such as "Scan for print", "Scan for fax", "Scan for email", etc.  There is even one called "Computer Not Listed"  ????????

I discovered that I can scan multiple pages to a single document using HP Smart, but it is not nearly as efficient as using a single button on the printer screen.

Is there a way to remove any of the entries from the printer screen and start over?

@lumpy76, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

For the scan to computer to work, a full feature printer driver has to be installed on the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-feature driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Open the HP Utility, go to Scan > manage scan to computer > Enable

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Running the full webpack did not install anything new.  Now when I try to scan a page I get an error from HP Scan "Unable to Communicate with the Scanner".  ?????????

I think I'll need to uninstall all related software and start over.

Thanks for your response.

Please try the steps below and let me know the outcome of it.

Prepare your printer for a wireless connection, and restart the printer, computer, and router.

Turn the printer off, and then wait 10 seconds.

Disconnect the printer power cord from the printer.

Turn off the computer or the device you are trying to print from.

Connect the printer power cord to the printer, and then turn on the printer.

Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router, and then wait 10 seconds.

Reconnect the power cord to the router. Wait until Internet service is restored. Internet service is interrupted while the router is off.

Turn on the computer.

Keep me posted.
