Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Hi! I am having an issue with the scan feature. When I scan on the flat glass and through the document feeder, I get the same results: blue lines across the document when it comes through to the computer. I have cleaned the glass as suggested, I have ran the "clean" features on the printer as suggested, I have turned off and back on as suggested, I have deleted and re-downloaded the software as suggested. I have tried everything Google asked me to try, and I am usually pretty good at figuring out the electronics but I am completely stumped.

Is it just time for a new printer? (Mid-work deadline lol)

Thanks in advance!

Hi @jbergman,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Blue lines on scanned documents almost always point to a hardware issue with the scanner sensor or calibration, especially if it happens on both the flatbed and the document feeder. Since you’ve already tried:

  • Cleaning the glass and ADF strip
  • Running the printer’s cleaning/calibration tools
  • Restarting and reinstalling software

…and the problem persists, here’s what HP recommends:

1. Check for Debris on the White Backing Strip

  • Lift the scanner lid and inspect the white backing strip (the underside of the lid).
  • Even tiny ink spots or dust can cause colored lines.
  • Clean it gently with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.

2. Inspect the ADF Scan Strip

  • If the ADF is used, check the narrow glass strip on the left side.
  • Clean thoroughly; streaks often come from dirt on this strip.

3. Update Firmware

  • Go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer or use HP Smart.
  • Firmware updates sometimes fix scanner calibration bugs.

4. Try a Different Scan Source

  • Use the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.
  • If the lines appear even in HP Smart, it confirms a hardware issue.

5. Hardware Reset

  • Unplug the printer for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • This forces a full hardware reset.

If Lines Persist

  • The scanner’s CIS sensor may be failing.
  • Unfortunately, this is not user-serviceable; HP would recommend a repair or replacement.
