Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

FYI, my husband is in the hospital and will be for several days.  Until I get back home with the printer, I won't be able to try the link you have provided.  Just wanted to let you know that I've received it and will check it out as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Last chance to save yourself from embarrassment HP. Your HP Smart for Desktop app was updated 1 day ago and the scanner function still does not work.

When you download HP Easy Start, even if HP Smart is completely removed from Mac, it prompts you to download the HP Smart software.  This tripped me up 2x before I figured it out.  Do not click "Get Software".  That will take you back to the same HP Smart problem we have.  Click to close the HP Easy Start entirely and then you will get the option to download the HP Easy Scan.

The HP Easy Scan does work.  It's not as good as having HP Smart fixed, but it will get your scanner back for work today.

----

I can confirm it does not work on multiple devices. It is deprecated software.

Removed the HP Easy Smart or whatever it was.

Connected old printer via USB to brand new iMac with 11.4;  downloaded drivers as instructed.

Scanning function and printing work great so far!

Thank you

removed the HP and EasySmart software.

downloaded drivers as instructed (security disarmed)

connected printer via USB cable.

scanner worked great.

(will try to restore wireless function soon but had to disconnect that before to get connection to printer to work)

I have the same issue. Using  a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw. Printing works fine but you get the "Scanner Not Found" message when scanning, even though the scanner will cycle through all pages in the feeder. None of the fixes listed below (check wifi, reload printer drivers, reload HP Smart, etc.) have worked.

HP simply must fix this bug!!!!!  My printer scanner was expensive and is not that old. HP should continue to support it.

Thank you, Shlomi, for pointing out a possible path for resolution of my problem. In my case (Photosmart C6280, networked) it did not solve the problem - neither the new driver nor Mac OS 11.4 recognise the device as being a scanner, even though the knowledge base article refers to C6200 series as one of those for which the article is relevant.

For the benefit of others  following this path to resolution:

1. The driver package referred to by the KB article, once downloaded, does not have a recogisable author according to Mac Big Sur installer - which I take to mean that the driver package is not properly signed in accordance with Apple's requirements - and if follows that a user is taking some risk by overriding the warnings and installing it.

2. Even though installing the package did not solve my problem with the C6280, it did fix the same issue (printer not recognised as multifunction/scanner/fax )with an Officejet 4500 G510g-m2. On my system, Big Sur 11.4, the 4500 is now visible both as a scanner and a fax, whereas previously it was just a 'generic PCL printer' as far as the standard Apple drivers were concerned. So that is a plus.

PostScript:

After a restart, Preview found my C6280 as a scanner and I have successfully scanned from there - so that solves my problem.  However, in System Preferences>Printers and Scanners, my C6200(6280) still does not show as a scanner there, even though my 4500 does.

I have the exact same issue with LaserJet MFP Pro M127fw. I didn't see this thread and started a new one. Has anybody found a solution to use the scanner with macOS 11.4 Big Sur?

So:

- My mac is brand-new, with all the app updated.

- I removed the old firmware and dowloaded the latest version form here .

- I installed HP Smart app.

Results:

1) I can print from any application BUT:

2) The "import form scanner" option is not available in the file menu of Mac "Preview" app (the standard way I accessed the option with my old Mac)

3) the almighty HP Smart app CANNOT FIND THE SCANNER and invites me to contact HP support service

I sincerely hope you someone can come out with some solution.
