HP office Jet Pro 6970
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have owned this printer for about two month and have been very pleased with it. In particular I liked the feature that enable you to print or scan double sided which I have used for scanning a few times now.

However recently when I have opened the scanner dialog box I am only given the option to scan single sided. The two sided option no longer appears.

I have tried rebooting the unit with no effect.

I have also tried to to search the issue but to date have found no answer.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Have you tried reinstalling the  FULL feature software?

This resource shows how to scan double sided. (as a reference)

HP Officejet Pro 6970 series : Scan a 10 pages 2 sided document using the ADF

If it is still showing only  one-sided, can you try this standalone Scan software:

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

If you need more scanning tips, click here.

Hope that helps!

I have same problem. Downloaded full feature software and require printer cable to continue with the installation of which I do not have nor have ever needed in the past when installing full feature software. Why the change when you updated to Smart and why has there been no fix for this? I do a lot of double sided scanning. Updating software should make things better, not worse. I see there are a lot of people with this problem.
