Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Finally decided to try setting up the scan to a shared folder again...but running into the same issues as before...invalid name and password

Both printer and mac are on the same wireless network and have no issues printing.

Using Macbook Pro running El Capitan 10.11.6 - only one user account on the mac...Bob

Steps accomplished:

Created Folder under users\Bob\Scan

Went to settings and enabled file sharing and added the file Scan to the list of shared folders and ensure "Bob" is listed as user with read/write privileges.

Accessed printer web page at 192.1.168.88

Selected Scan / Network Folder Setup

inpu the following parameters

Display Name - Scan

Network path - \\192.168.1.94\Scan (confirmed this ip is the ip address for the mac)

 User Name - Bob

PW - same as used to logon to Mac (been checked nearly 30 times!)

Continually get "User name or password is incorrect. Ensure both user name and password are correct"

Any suggestions??

Hi,

As long as you won't enable Windows File Sharing for the user the pritner will fail to connect as it only supports SMB.

By testing, I can see the user as available for selection even when SMB is turned off..

By searching online, I do see posts which indicate you will not be able to set Windwos File Saring for the user when iCloud password is set, may it be related?:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6708192?start=0&tstart=0

You may try creating a new user account and set it for this purpose (you'll not even need to logon that user, just set it on the printer while providing both users access to this folder, so you can keep using your current users).

Another thread indicate that changing the password fixed the issue:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6629743?start=0&tstart=0

For any furhter issues, I suggest starting a thread at Apple Support Communities, as long as you won't resolve this issue the printer won't be able to connect.

Please let me know of any progress,

Shlomi

Hi,

Try following these steps and check if that may work:

  1. From Finder, browse to users\Bob, right click (or CTRL + Left Click) the Scan folder and select Get Info.
  2. Ensure the box next to Shared Folder is checked.
  3. Under Sharing & Permissions, ensure your user is set with Read & Write permissions.
  4. Open System Preferences > Sharing.
  5. Ensure File Sharing is checked.
  6. Within the File Sharing settings click on Options.
  7. Ensure the box next to Share files and folders using SMB is checked.
  8. Ensure you username is marked as On within the Windows File Sharing area box.
  9. Now try repeating the steps form teh pritner webpage (192.1.168.88 ) and check for any difference.

From your description the settings within the EWS seems correct, the SMB setting information is missing, therefore I assume these steps may help you getting a proper setup...

Hope that helps,

Shlomi

Thanks. For steps 1 thru 7, I  confirmed these were set as you indicated.  No changes were necessary.

For step 8 however, that option is grayed out. It is currently unchecked.

I"m assuming there's another option that enables that choice to be selected.

Thx!
