hp officejet 6978 all-in-one Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just installed the hp officejet all-in-one printer. Prints fine, but when I attempt to scan it does not give the option to scan to outlook, which my Officejet J6400 series did. Is there a solution.

Hi,

From your PC open the HP Officejet Pro 6970 software and then click the Scan tab, select PDF as Email and press Scan, an Outlook dialog will be launched with the scan attached.

If you try scanning from the ritner itself select Scan > Computer.

Select your PC name, then press the Save as PDF option an you may select PDF as Email instead.

Press Scan, confirm any prompt on the printer screen once you are done and an outlook dialog will be launched.

Thank Shiomil for your response. I tried what you suggested, but the dialogue box with outlook does not open. Any other suggestions?

Hi @Charles1953,

Please try right clicking any PDF file on your PC and select Send To > Mail Recipient, does it launch a New Mail dialog with the PDF attached?

That is actually the same task being done by the HP Scan software, does it being done or maybe nothing happens? which may indicate an issue related with MS Outlook itself (which is quite common these days following Windows Updates..)

Thanks Shiomil for your response. When I right click on a PDF it does bring up the dialogue box, but when I choose send to mail recipient nothing happens. I have to first go to outlook and attach the file in order to send it. If I desire to scan and send a new document, I have to save it first then go to outlook and attach. With my hp4600 series, I got the dialogue box at the beginning of the scan. Other suggestions? If not, thanks for your assistance!

Hi Charles,

From your description it seems your OS cannot do the same action of attaching a file automatically too, as long as your OS cannot perform a such HP Scan will fail to do so too, meaning the issue relies with MS Office or your OS..

I suggest try and repair MS Office from my experience that should help, else contact Microsoft for any further help with Office itself...

To repair MS Office open the control panel and select Uninstall a Program.

Locate Microsoft office and select Change, then follow the steps on screen to repair MS Office and check for any difference...

It's not the OS, your HP software doesn't work for businesses using outlook 365 - BUYER BEWARE
