How do I reduce/compress PDF file size from scanned document for HP Officejet 4655?

Depends on what you are asking.

IF you are asking the question after having discovered that HP Smart is creating bloated file size and page size documents,

then

It's a bug (details included later in this message).

If you are using other than HP Smart to scan a PDF file,

then

Reduce the file size by reducing the resolution / dpi of the scan.

For example, if you are scanning at 600 resolution, reduce to 300 DPI or less.

Bug Bits

Yes, it's a bug.

The HP Smart team is working on the solution.

Documents scanned with HP Smart create a "bloated" larger page size and larger file size file.

At this writing,

The solution is expected about Mid-June in the form of a new version release for HP Smart.

What if?

If you have a "fat" file for which you no longer have the original document,

If you need to have a properly sized scan file,

Print the document at a reduced "Shrink to Fit" size,

Re-scan the printed document into the computer using OTHER than HP Smart.

OR

Use paid option to correct the file structure.

What to do while waiting for the solution?

For now, use alternative software to scan documents.

NOTE for Windows S mode users:

  • Windows in S mode only allows installation of applications from the Microsoft Store.  Windows "S" mode scan options are therefore limited to those applications you can install from the Store (marked in Green).
  • Windows 10 (full Windows) can make use of any of the "blue" or the "green" options.

Example list...

NOTE:  Alternatives do not necessarily provide the same settings / features as HP Smart.

Thanks so much for the response. It helped a lot. I already tried reducing the file size and the scan still have a large size.

I am glad that HP will release a fix for the bug. I am looking forward to it. Are all the users going to receive an email when the solution is released?

Thanks again.

@joykairos

You are welcome.

No email will be sent.

When the solution is available - regardless of when that happens - the application be available in the Microsoft Store

Hopefully the fix will be available sooner rather than later.

If you have the Store set up for automatic updates, the application will update on its own when the update is available.

If you wish to do so, you can manually check / update store applications from within the Store.

Microsoft Store - Application Updates

Windows (Start) > Microsoft Store

In the upper right corner, click on the three horizontal dots ...

Select Settings > App updates > "Update apps automatically" = ON

In the upper right corner, click on the three horizontal dots ...

Select Downloads and Updates Get Updates
