I used to be able to scan to email from the printer but now it constantly tells me it ":Cannot Resolve the SMTP server"!  I'm using gmail and , I believe, the outgoing server is smtp.gmail.com  with port 465 but this does not work.  I've also tried my Yahoo email account and it won't work either.

I then tried to fax and I can hear it dialing and connecting but it takes forever to try and send and doesn't send the fax either!!!

I'm having bad luck on all accounts so can't send any documents out at all!

Please help!

Thanks

Duane

There's the issue. Your printer is not obtaining a proper IP Address from your router. If you click on the wireless icon that looks like a radio tower, go to Settings, and Restore Defaults it will restore all settings. From there, run the Wireless Setup under Settings to connect your printer to your wireless network.

If you are still seeing an IP Address that starts with 169.254, contact your internet provider or whoever provided you with your router for assistance with determining why the router is not providing the printer with an IP Address.

Please let me know the results after following the above.

Hey @djduane,

I see that you are having some issues with Scan to Email and faxing from your Laserjet M277dw Printer. I can help you with that.

To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. While the printer is powered off, remove the power cord from the back of the router for one minute.
  3. When the lights return on the router, turn the printer on.

At this point you should be able to use Scan to Email. If not, check the settings on the printer by clicking on this link.

For troubleshooting your fax issues, please click on this link.

Please let me know the results after following the above. If you are able to resolve both issues, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Hi, Doc

Thanks for your response. I've tried this before and tried it again today and STILL cannot scan to email.  Fax was working but is intermittent.  It will fax one page but no more?  I keep getting the cannot resolve SMTP server when I try and use my gmail and yahoo accounts.  Very frustrating indeed.  Any more ideas, please besides getting another printer?

Thanks

I forgot to mention that these problems seemed to occur after I updated to latest firmware builds.  THis printer can also NOT connect to HP Web services.  It says check internet connection but the printer is able to be contacted via wifi and all systems tests look good. I can print from all our devices (thank goodness) but cannot scan to email or fax properly. Ipv4 address is 169.254.151.197 and IP is auto configured.

Thanks

I am having a similar problem with my Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw.

I am using a gmail account with smtp.gmail.com Port 465, SSL, and SMTP authentication.

The error I receive is "Cannot resolve teh SMTP server.  Check the SMTP and DNS server settings with your system administrator or Internet Service Provider."

Reading through other forums, I checked the IP/DNS settings and the IP address is fine  but the DNS is "Not Specified".   I have tried DHCP and Static IP's but it never fills in automatically and there is no way to set the DNS manually (my preferred method).

There is nothing in the documentation about how to set the DNS manually.

Please assist.
