HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I've been using the scan-to-email option on my multifunction printers for many years, always using a **bleep** account via SMTP port 587 and a **bleep** application password.

For context, I'll explain that since last Saturday, March 8th, I've been receiving attempts to connect to my **bleep** and Outlook/Hotmail accounts due to a security breach, presumably by some Google partner, because they're attacking everything I had saved in my Google Chrome passwords. Google acknowledges the attack but claims it's not their fault.

The problem I'm explaining this to is that since that day, I haven't been able to get the scan-to-email option to work on my printers again. The access is configured correctly. I set it up the same way in Outlook and it works, both via 587 and 465, but not on the printer.

I've tried creating a new account in case Google has somehow "banned" my **bleep** account because, due to the security issue, people have been trying to access it from several different countries since that day, but the same thing happens with the new account.

I have "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" checked, "SMTP server smtp.**bleep**.com on port 587" (also tried 465), "Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS)", and "The server requires authentication with the correct username and password (password is a **bleep** application password)."

Can someone tell me how to resolve this in the printer settings or find an alternative option to get this feature working again?

Hi @Jjaviercs,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Since your scan-to-email function stopped working after a security breach, it's likely that your email provider (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) has tightened security settings, preventing the printer from connecting. Here’s how to fix it:

Check If SMTP Access Is Blocked by Your Email Provider

  • Gmail/Outlook may have flagged your account due to unauthorized access attempts.
  • Try logging into your email via a web browser and check for security alerts.
  • If you see a “suspicious login attempt” notification, allow access.

Reconfigure SMTP Settings on the Printer

Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Find your printer's IP address (printed on a network configuration page or via the control panel).
  • Enter it in a web browser (e.g., http://192.168.1.X).
  • Go to Scan → Scan-to-Email Setup.

If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
