Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Photosmart 7520 that has been successfully scanning to my laptop for  a year.  I can print from laptop to printer, I can scan to email, but just recently I can no longer scan from printer to laptop.  All drivers are current.  Obvioulsy internet connect is working. Any ideas?

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

Let's run the HP Scan and Doctor:

Use this link for details on using the HP Print and Scan doctor: https://hp.care/2JyaC93

If the issue still persists, we can do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

As mentioned in my original post, my drivers are current.  The problem is the firewall.  I can print wirelessly through the firewall, but cannot scan.  To scan from the 7520 to my laptop I have to disable the firewall, a tedious and unsecure step I'd like to avoid.  Please let me know how I can configure the 7520 to see my HP Laptop through the firewall for scanning.

Which firewall or anti-virus software are you using? Also, are you trying to scan to your Laptop from the Printer's control panel or from the software on the Laptop?

Thanks.

my security package is Bitdefender Total Security.  In the past I have always scanned from the printer control panel to the laptop (wirelessly).  Both printing from the laptop to the printer works fine, and sending scanned document from the printer to email work fine with firewall on.  Only scanning from printer fails.  Error message says I need to either update IP address or check my security settings.

It looks like you were interacting with @Betty0610, but she is out for the day. I'm KrazyToad & I'm at your service.

Please download and use the HP Smart App to scan. Please refer to this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142

I have 3 HP printers connected wirelessly to an HP Spectre laptop, one older printer connected via USB.  All printers are configured and working correctly save the Photsmart 7520 that cannot scan to the laptop without disabling my firewall and this is a new problem.  Scanning wirelessly has been working correctly for well over a year.  I already have HP Smart, however it only recognizes one of my 4 HP printers, the 7520 is not one of them.  What gives?  What will HP Smart do for this problem and how can I have the app recognize the printers?  The laptop sees the printers as connected and active.

I suggest you reset the network settings to default

- Touch the Wireless Icon > Go to Settings > Restore Defaults ( or similar options)

Next run the wireless setup wizard

  1. From the Wireless menu on the printer, touch Settings.

  2. Touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing and let me know how it goes

Thank you 😊

I reset the wireless config as suggested but that made no difference (nor did I think it would since wireless communication works fine to email from printer and print from PC, both wirelessly.)  It is the firewall configuration that the HP printer (perhaps after newer drivers?) will not penetrate, but only for scanning.

Thanks for keeping me posted

I suggest you run the Print And Scan Doctor from this Link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe and check if that helps

Run PSDR v5.0.2

Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.

Select the correct Printer and click on Next.

PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing

Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.

Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”

PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.

Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue.  If no issue found close PSDR.

If the issue persists assign a Manual IP Address

1) Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
2) Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
3) Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
4) Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
5) Click Manual IP
6) If you see a Suggest a Manual IP Address button, click Manual IP address, and the Manual IP addresses are automatically filled out for you.
7) If your page does not have a button to suggest a manual IP address, type the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway using the numbers shown in the report you printed.

Let me know how this goes

Thank you 😊
