I have two issues - MacBook Pro - all current updates have been installed.
HP scan destinations will not close. Blue bar show that it is working and complete. With this open I can not shut down my laptop. All HP firmware and software have been downloaded and reinstalled. Still not able to force close window.
When scaning, documents are saved as PDF file. When attached to an email document is only abel to be inserted. After updating software/firmware the issue remains.

Totally agree. Fix Image Capture. No wonder HP has bec ome a copy cat business. No original ideas and just follow what other successful brands are doing. Like all of a sudden moving into the cloud. Can't they just support the people that already own their product?

Not sure if this helps anyone. I have a HP LaserJet multi-function M277c6. This model seems to be cursed by many issues. Crooked scans and copies, ePrint only works if IP is assigned DHCP, etc etc. I have spent hours and hours on the phone with HP. I also recently "upgraded" to Apple's new macOS 10.12 (running 10.12.1). This OS version also has many issues, and I am not going into those here.
So this morning, I wanted to use the scan feature to scan something with my M277c6. Normally I usually open the Printer Proxy of M277c6 (the print queue), and it has a Scanner icon in the top right corner. But to my surprise the Scanner icon was greyed out. Coulnd't use it.
So I went to System Preferences and clicked on Printers & Scanners, selected the M277c6 printer and clicked the Scan tab, then clicked Open Scanner... The scanner window opened but, never finished loading.
Then I started up the HP Easy Scan app (not sure why I need yet another app to just do scanning that should be native, but hey, I did install it and have used it before). Anyway, it also couldn't find the printer/scanner.
Then I tried the Image Capture app, and it also couldn't even see the printer / scanner.
I thought that the printer may be off line, but that was also not the case. I was able to print to the printer and was able to pull up the built in print server in my browser. So that was not the case either.
So the next thing for me was to power down the printer and then restart it, and guess what.... After restart the scanner function was restored. The printer / scanne was recongnized and was working again. My conclusion is that there is a flaw possibly with the printer / scanner firmware itself. Something seems to happen when the printer/scanner goes into standby or sleep mode.
There are other issues that plague the most recent M277c6 firmware. It seems that it can't automatically reconnect to the wireless network it is usually connected if the router goes down and comes back up, or when the wireless network is restarted due to settings change or what not. Spoke to HP Support and they told me to turn off IPv6 support on the router and set the 2.4GHz network's controll channel to channel 11. Done. Did that. While I was chatting with the rep on the phone I changed settings on the 2.4GHz network, and the the printer re-connected to the network just fine. But... it was only because the printer was not "sleeping". If this happens when the printer is in sleep mode it will failt to reconnect to the selected network and has to be restarted. Sleeping also seems to have an impact on the scanner recognition. I totally think that this is hanging together.
I think that HP needs to double their efforts on getting the firmware bugs worked out on many of their printers.
Hope that this helps anyone and especially HP to please fix their stuff!
Thanks.
