I have an HP 7612, it scanned on and off with El Capitan and now not at all with Sierra. Tried all sorts of supposed cures but none of them have worked. HP Easy Scan doesn't work with the Automatic Document Feeder, after scanning the first page it just stops, and if left it then cancels the scan. It doesn't scan from my partners networked Mac Mini which is running El Capitan. The printer is connected to my network with a CAT5 ethernet cable (RJ45 plug / socket).
This printer hasn't worked at all (no print or scan) with my Employers laptop (HP 6460b !), even our contracted HP technicians can't get it to work.
Remedy = place it carefully in the dustbin, and replace with a Epson WE-7610DWF.
Disgusted at my waste of money, and HP's inability to remedy.

If you don't have time to wait for it, here is what you can do;
Two alternatives
1. Open your browser, type in the scanners IP nr like 192.168.1.111
if the scanner have a webinterface you can scan from here.
2. Download VueScan from www.hamrick.com (free testversion) for me it was very fast to download and install and the scanner was found in seconds. Scanninig was possible with a watermark. I paid for it and the watermark was gone. (You will recive an email with three codes to register in the software (I think you can use up to four of your own computers on one licens.)

However Vuescan costs $49.95 for std edition and $89.95 for the pro version. The pro version is not far off what I paid for the scanner in the fist place.
HP should be doing something about this, not me paying again..............

VueScan works for more than 3000 units and I think that VueScan software is better than the software that came along with your scanner. So even if you bye a new scanner you can still use VueScan.
If you don't like VueScan bye a scanner of a brand that is faster to updater their drivers.

Hello,
I have the same problems with my HP Photomart C6180 with the access to the scanner over the network (wireless or cable). I called Apple many times aftern launching OS Sierra 10.12 and 10.12.1. They have no solutions at the time and I'm sure that the problem has something to to with the network driver in conjunction with the printer driver.
If I tried to connect the HP C6180 with an USB cable I can add the scanner and printer again with a different appearance and everything works. I can scan with the preview app, with HP easy scan and with the tool delivered directly if I open the scanner under the printer setting menue.
So please verify the same with USB connection.

YesSSS !!!
Hi from France,
Many thanks for the two alternatives, they are both working fine...unless the "scan to computer" option directly from the device.
However, i tried all previous solutions (uninstall and reinstall drivers and softwares from HP and/or Apple, etc.. etc...), but scanning still non longer working.
Web-scanning and VueScan are functionnal...so, i really think there is a communication problem between Sierra and hp driver/software...
But, as we say in France "l'informatique a des raisons que la raison ignore" (computing has its reasons which reason knows nothing...or something like that !)
Hp envy 7640 / MacOs Sierra / ethernet.
Best regards,
PJN

I have the same problem with Officejet J6480. Tried vuescan and it works. but I can buy a whole new all in one for not much more than this app. Where is HP with their support of this issue?

Absolutely agree with you.
I've just checked the Epson site and they have drivers for Mac OSX Sierra no problem. So the HP 7612 is being binned, the Epson WF-7610DWF has been ordered from E-buyer at £129.99 with £30 cashback and free 3 year on-site extended warranty from Epson, so a little more expensive than Vuescan Pro but a great bargain none-the-less.
Can't wait to throw the HP 7612 in the bin.
I'll never have anything HP again.
