Deskjet 3520
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Printer/scanner is connected wirelessly. Using HP scan, new session, message says cannot connect, yet if I print, it prints fine. Rebooted scanner/printer and computer but still same message. HP utility shows the printer name as a heading but does not show model details serial nuimber etc etc. Tried reinstalling but cannot get it to scan. Any ideas how I can scan perhaps without using HO software? Apples Image Capture also doesnt pick the scanner up. Help me Obi Won Kenobi??

Hi @TonyJ1,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues scanning on your HP DeskJet printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

I understand that you have an HP Deskjet 3520 series and the HP Easy Scan does not work on Mac Sierra. You have uninstalled and reinstall the software. All other apps can communicate with the scanner and are able to import images from the scanner, except EasyScan. I appreciate you taking your valuable time to troubleshoot.

I recommend you to perform the following steps as a workaround:

  • I did some research and found that for this printer there are no full-featured drivers available for Mac Sierra.
  • However, in an Apple update there are inbuilt print and scan drivers available for this printer model. Please follow the below steps to install the Mac inbuilt printer drivers.
  • Please download the Mac inbuilt drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2flF56z
  • From System Preferences, click on Print & Scan.
  • Click the Plus sign.
  • Select the listed Deskjet 3520 series.
  • Click the drop-down menu next to Use or Print Using and click on Select Printer Software.
  • Select the Deskjet 3520 series from the list.
  • Click OK to confirm your selection and add the printer, then try printing using the configured print queue.

Post performing the above steps, you may try to use the Apple Image capture and test the scanning. I hope this information helps.

Thanks Jeet. Did as instructed and found the printer was added into the printers and scanners area - twice. Selecting the first scanner listed opened the scanner facility and it let me scan the document.  Brilliant - thanks again.
