Check Scan Format and Resolution

  • Open HP Smart → Select Scan → Click Settings.
  • Ensure the File Type is set to PDF or JPEG, depending on your need.
  • Set Resolution to at least 300 dpi for clear text and images.

 

Use Flatbed for Precision

  • If you're using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), try scanning from the flatbed instead.
  • This helps rule out misfeeds or alignment issues.

 

Update HP Smart and Printer Firmware

 

Try HP Scan and Capture (Alternative App)

  • Download HP Scan and Capture from the Microsoft Store.
  • This app offers more control over scan settings and preview options.

 

Verify Document Viewer Compatibility

  • If the scanned file opens incorrectly, try viewing it in a different app (e.g., Adobe Reader for PDFs or Windows Photos for JPEGs).
  • Some default viewers may misinterpret formatting or orientation.

 

Use HP Smart App for Troubleshooting

  • Download or update HP Smart for Windows. 
  • Open the app → Select your printer → Go to Support → Run Diagnose & Fix.
  • This built-in tool checks for scan errors, driver issues, and connectivity problems.
