Deskjet 3050 All-in-one J610 Series and MS Windows 8.1
This machine is used infrequently. It is based in a remote location and there is no internet or WiFi. This machine is hardwired to my laptop using USB cable.
The machine has always performed normally until recently. Now there is a scanning from computer problem.
1. Printing from the laptop is fine
2. Copying directly on the printer is fine
3. Scanning is a problem - when scanning from the computer the printer produces a totally black page. I do mean totally black and NOT a blank page !
Is this a problem that can be resolved or has the machine passed its useful life ?

@HPPARC, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Make sure copy works fine on the printer. Copy and scan use the same mechanism. If the issue is only while scanning, it could be a software issue.
Which application do you use to scan?
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue
Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix Scanning'.
If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Use MS paint to scan and check if the issue persists.
- Right-click on the lower left of the monitor, select the option to search and type Paint.
- In the results, click Paint, the program should be opened on the screen.
- Click File in the upper left part of the program. Then click on the option from scanner or camera.
- Try scanning.
Let me know how this goes.

Thank you for taking the time to respond but I did say there is no internet at the location so I cannot download new software or Scan Doctor. Also, I did say that printing and from the laptop is fine. But thanks for attempting to help.

Did you try scanning from MS paint? What was the result?
If the copies are working fine, this could be a software issue. You may use the HP Driver CD that came with the printer.
Keep me posted.

Hi, thanks again. I am unable to try any of your suggestions at the moment as this particular printer is in another country which I will not return to until next March ! I will then try to scan from MS paint (could you explain the best process for doing that ?) and also reload the software from the CD. If that fails I will bring the printer to an internet connection and try the other on-line proposals. Thanks
