5. Check Scan Settings

  • Scan resolution: Check the scan resolution settings in your scanning software. If the resolution is too low, the scan may appear blank. Try increasing the resolution to 300 dpi or higher.
  • Scan type: Ensure that the correct scan type is selected, such as "Color" or "Black & White" instead of "Blank" or "Negative."
  • Select proper document type: Make sure that the software is set to scan for the correct document type (e.g., photo, document) based on your scanning needs.

6. Use HP Scan Doctor (HP's troubleshooting tool)

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor: It’s a free tool provided by HP that can automatically detect and fix many common scanning problems.
    • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor
    • Run the tool, and it will guide you through the troubleshooting steps.

7. Try Scanning in Different Software

  • Scan with a different program: If you normally use the HP software to scan, try using a different program like Windows Fax and Scan, or a third-party scanning software.
    • In Windows: Open "Windows Fax and Scan" (type it in the search bar) and try scanning from there.
  • This can help determine if the issue is with the scanning software you're using.

8. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Update printer firmware: Sometimes a firmware update is needed to fix bugs or improve performance.
    • Check for available firmware updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website.

@ERNEST43,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉

I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:

1. Check the Scanner Glass

  • Clean the scanner glass: Dust, fingerprints, or smudges on the glass can cause scanning issues. Gently clean the scanner glass with a soft cloth and a small amount of glass cleaner or water.
  • Check for any paper or debris: Ensure that no paper or foreign object is blocking the scanner.

2. Check for Scanner Driver and Software Issues

  • Update scanner drivers: Ensure that the drivers for your HP ENVY 6000 are up to date.
    • Go to the HP Support website and search for the latest drivers for your printer model.
    • Alternatively, use the HP Smart app (if it's installed) to check for any updates.
  • Reinstall the HP software: If the driver is up to date, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the HP printer/scanner software to ensure a fresh installation.

3. Ensure Proper Connection

  • Check the USB or Wi-Fi connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer, whether through USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Test with a different connection: If you’re using Wi-Fi, try switching to a USB cable to rule out connection issues.

4. Test the Printer’s Scan Function

  • Scan directly from the printer: Try scanning directly from the printer's control panel to see if it produces a result. This can help identify whether the problem is with the scanner hardware or the computer connection.
    • If the printer scans directly but your computer still shows a blank scan, the issue may be with the software or settings on your computer.

9. Reset the Printer

  • Power cycle the printer: Turn off your HP ENVY 6000, unplug it from the power source for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
  • Reset to factory settings: If the problem persists, try resetting the printer to factory settings and reconfigure it from scratch.

10. Test on Another Computer

  • Try scanning on a different computer: This will help you rule out whether the issue is related to your specific computer's configuration or the printer/scanner itself.

11. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Test with a different document: Ensure that the document you’re trying to scan is placed properly on the scanner glass. Sometimes scanning blank or very faint documents can result in a blank scan.
  • Hardware failure: If all else fails and nothing seems to work, there may be an issue with the scanner hardware.

Thanks for the help. This led me to realize that the 'pdf'  opener in Windows was not working so I downloaded Adobe and everything is back to normal.
