Hi @NZWriter,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
The Server Failure – Try Again Later error when setting up Scan to Email or Scan to Network Folder on your HP Smart Tank 7605 usually indicates an issue with the SMTP server settings, network configuration, or authentication.
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting:
1. Check Network Connection
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
- Run the Wireless Network Test from the printer’s settings to check for connection issues.
2. Verify Email Server Settings (For Scan to Email)
- If using Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo, check their SMTP settings:
- Gmail:
- SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS)
- Requires authentication: Yes
- Username: Your full Gmail address
- Password: Use an App Password if 2-step verification is enabled
- Outlook.com (Hotmail, Live, MSN):
- SMTP Server: smtp.office365.com
- Port: 587 (TLS)
- Requires authentication: Yes
- Yahoo Mail:
- SMTP Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
- Port: 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS)
- Requires authentication: Yes
- Gmail:
3. Enable "Less Secure Apps" or Use App Password
- If using Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo, you may need to enable access for less secure apps or generate an App Password for the printer.
4. Check Firewall or Security Software
- If you have firewall or antivirus software, temporarily disable it and try scanning again.
- Add the printer’s IP address to the firewall's allowed list.
5. Setup Scan to Folder (Alternative)
- If Scan to Email isn't working, try Scan to Network Folder:
- Create a shared folder on your computer.
- Set read & write permissions for the printer.
- Use the printer’s web interface (http://your-printer-ip) to configure Scan to Folder.
6. Restart Devices
- Power off the printer, router, and computer. Wait 30 seconds, then power them back on.
