HP Smart Tank 7006 All-in-One

Since I updated HP Smart on my MacPro (late 2013) my Scanner does not work any more. MacOS Monterey 12.7.6. It is connected to the Wifi. I tried all the suggestions, also with USB cable. I installed HP Smart completely new. I tried to install new drivers, but the Mac reported a failure during installation multiple times. I tried to install HP Easy Scan, but it doesn't start. So, I scan documents now using my iPhone, so I am very disappointed. The printer works great though, from my mac, but also directly from my iPhone. The HP Smart App on the iPhone does not find the printer. But via AirPrint I can use the printer, for instance in Word. Help!

Hi @Tim4711

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you are encountering a frustrating issue with HP Smart after the update on your Mac. While the printer works fine, the scanner functionality seems to be completely broken, and you’re unable to install drivers or use HP Easy Scan. I understand how annoying that can be, especially when the printer is functioning but the scanning feature is critical.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue on your MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey:

Step 1: Reset the Printer and Scanner Connection

Let’s ensure that the printer and scanner are properly reset and reconnected to your Mac.

  1. Restart the Printer:
    • Turn off your HP printer completely and unplug it from the power for 30 seconds.
    • Plug it back in, wait a few seconds, and then turn it on.
  2. Restart Your Mac:
    • Restart your MacBook Pro to ensure any connections are refreshed.
  3. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi:
    • Since your printer is working via Wi-Fi for printing, ensure that it is still connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
  4. Check Scanner Settings:
    • On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Make sure your HP printer is listed there and set as the default printer.
    • Select your printer and click Options & Supplies > Utility > Open Printer Utility.
    • Ensure that scanning is enabled in the utility.

Step 2: Update or Reinstall HP Software and Drivers

It seems like there may be a conflict between the updated HP Smart App and the scanner driver. Let’s try reinstalling everything carefully.

1. Remove Any Existing HP Software Completely

  • Uninstall HP Smart: Open Finder and go to Applications, then find HP Smart and HP Easy Scan. Drag them to the trash and then empty the trash.
  • Remove Printer Drivers: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your HP printer, and click the - button to remove it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
