Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I have the HP deskjet 2800 and it's new. The app printed ONE file for me and now it won't even open that sane file again. It's saying "Hp Smart can't open pdf file" all of a sudden.

Hi @JoSasha,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand that your HP Smart app is having trouble opening PDF files for printing, especially when you're trying to use your new HP DeskJet 2800 All-in-One Printer. Let's try some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:

  • Restart Your Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix software glitches. Try restarting both your smartphone or computer and the printer.
  • Update HP Smart App: Ensure that your HP Smart app is up to date. Go to your device's app store (Google Play Store for Android or Apple App Store for iOS) and check for any available updates for the HP Smart app. If an update is available, install it and then try opening the PDF file again.
  • Check PDF File Compatibility: Make sure that the PDF file you're trying to open is not corrupted or encrypted. Try opening other PDF files to see if the issue persists. If other PDF files can be opened successfully, then the problematic file might be the issue.
  • Clear Cache and Data (Android Only): If you're using the HP Smart app on an Android device, you can try clearing the app's cache and data. Go to Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Storage > Clear Cache/Clear Data. Keep in mind that clearing data will reset the app to its default settings, so you may need to reconfigure any custom settings afterward.
  • Try Alternative PDF Viewer: If the HP Smart app continues to have trouble opening PDF files, you can try using an alternative PDF viewer app on your device to open the files. Once the PDF file is open in another app, you can try printing it using the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
