Hi @Melanie8121,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

To resolve the issue where your HP 283fdw starts scanning on a different HP printer (HP 1536) on the network and you cannot scan directly to your computer, follow these steps:

1. Ensure Correct Printer Selection in HP Smart App

Open HP Smart App:

  • Launch the HP Smart app on your computer.

Select the Correct Printer:

  • Make sure that the HP 283fdw is selected as the active printer in the app. You can usually see the selected printer at the top of the app interface.

Remove Other Printers (Optional):

  • If multiple printers are listed, consider removing the HP 1536 from the list to avoid confusion. You can do this by selecting the printer, going to settings, and choosing to remove the printer.

2. Update Printer Preferences and Settings

Open Devices and Printers:

  • On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Set Default Printer:

  • Right-click on the HP 283fdw and select Set as default printer.

Check Scanner Settings:

  • Right-click on the HP 283fdw again and select Scanner Properties.
  • Ensure the scanner is correctly configured.

3. Update Printer and Scanner Drivers

Uninstall Existing Drivers:

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and uninstall any existing HP printer drivers for both the 283fdw and the 1536.

Download Latest Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for the HP 283fdw.

Install Drivers:

  • Install the drivers for the HP 283fdw and restart your computer.

4. Check Network Configuration

Printer IP Address:

  • Ensure that the HP 283fdw has a static IP address assigned. You can usually set this in the printer's network settings via its control panel.

Firewall and Security Settings:

  • Ensure that your computer's firewall or security software is not blocking the HP Smart app or the printer's communication. You might need to add exceptions for the HP Smart app and the printer's IP address.

Kindly find the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
