For some reason, my telephone will only work if plugged directly into the wall outlet. If I plug it into the back of the printer and plug the printer into the telephone jack, the phone does not work.

Any advice would be appreciated

I hate to ask the simple questions, but sometimes that is where the problem lies. When you plugged into the printer did you get the ports correct? The port with the phone icon is where you plug in the telephone and the port marked with a jack goes to the wall. It does make a difference.
